“If I could give 0 stars I would” ★☆☆☆☆ Review of APA Hotel
By law, you do not have to give up your passport for photocopying if you are a tourist and further if you are a permanent resident of Japan like myself you do not have to present one, period. Unfortunately, the racist scum working the night shift at the front desk would not give me my room key unless I presented a passport. I'm sorry when you travel within the country you live in, you don't carry your passport with you, right?! Long story short, terrible staff, horribly aging room and building and will NEVER go back! This place was a last resort to begin with.... “Small room with political literature” ★☆☆☆☆ Review of APA Hotel
The single room was very small even by Japanese standards and, though the staff were polite and helpful, the image of the hotel suffers from the presence of political literature, namely a couple of books of "revisionist" Japanese history placed in every room (along with, as is usual in Japanese business hotels, a guide to the adult channels). One has an English translation so you can read all about their take on Japan's colonial past, the attack on Pearl Harbor, and Japan's "defence" against "Caucasians". In particular, if you are American, Chinese or Korean, I recommend you stay elsewhere. https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g298161-d1443398-r51527288-APA_Hotel_Keisei_Narita_Ekimae-Narita_Chiba_Prefecture_Kanto.html http://www.apahotel.com APA Hotel Racist Revisionist Sex Slave
“Revisionist WWII propaganda in the room” ★☆☆☆☆ Review of APA Hotel
We chose this hotel since it was close to the airport and had a free airport shuttle. When we arrived we learned the shuttle only runs in the morning and the evening, which was useless to us as our flight left in the afternoon. Very frustrating since we now had to haul our bags ourselves via the metro. The room was tiny but clean, but I was very shocked to find two books left out in the room (and available for sale, I later discovered) written by Seiji Fuji, the pen name of the president of this hotel chain. The book was full of all kinds of absurd claims like the Nanking massacre was invented by the Chinese, the comfort women of WWII were happy, well paid prostitutes who enjoyed playing sports in their free time, and a "sorry not sorry" explanation of Pearl Harbor and the claim that the US blew up the USS Arizona themselves and blamed Japan. People are entitled to their own crazy opinion, but putting this kind of offensive writing in a hotel room used by many foreigners is in bad taste. My grandmother and her family were imprisoned in a Japanese concentration camp during the war, and I was very offended by this blatant rewriting of history, especially under the guise of "educating foreigners on the real history of Japan." If I had known, I never would have booked this hotel and supported this kind of ridiculous nonsense. I enjoyed my time in Japan and the friendliness of Japanese people, but this ended our vacation on a sour note. https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g298161-d1443398-r338929082-APA_Hotel_Keisei_Narita_Ekimae-Narita_Chiba_Prefecture_Kanto.html http://www.apahotel.com APA Hotel Racist Revisionist Sex Slave
“One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at in Japan during 35 visits to Japan” ★☆☆☆☆ Review of APA Hotel
Big fancy reception, rooms so pokey and small you can't move. Squashed writing this on chair against bed. Hot air blowing when I turn air con on. I ask reception how to cool it down, The guy at the desk says no, you can't cool it down, we only have hot air blowing. Also overcrowded and lots of noisy tourists screaming out. I am paying Y7,000 per night, to be in a hot room and this price does not even include breakfast. You can get to this APA hotel by walking 15 minutes down the road. Turn right at Keisei station, walk down the road and turn right at the traffic light. Other wise if you have luggage, you have to lug it down lots of stairs from Keisei Station. Very misleading, the hotel saying it is close to the station. If you want a good hotel near Narita Airport, the Mercure Narita near Keisei station and Toyoko Inn Narita Kuko is my favorite - huge rooms, free breakfast and very near airport. https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g298161-d1443398-r262840316-APA_Hotel_Keisei_Narita_Ekimae-Narita_Chiba_Prefecture_Kanto.html http://www.apahotel.com APA Hotel Racist Revisionist Sex Slave
“Unfair hidden fees and terrible customer service” ★☆☆☆☆ Review of APA Hotel
I have never written a poor review on anything online before, but I have never been as disturbed with a travel experience as at this hotel. I looked at multiple hotels ahead of time, knowing our flight would arrive at 7AM, looking for one with early check in. I explicitly called to ask the hotel before booking about this, and they nicely said "of course, call us when you get your tickets and we can figure out what time to check you in." That's it- no comment about fees. After booking the hotel, I called again, and the receptionist said "no problem, we can check you in at 10 AM since your flight is that early." It was that simple- absolutely no more comments about fees and no questions about the time we wanted to come based on fees, etc. We arrived at 7, jetlagged and exhausted, but managed to stir ourselves awake for a few more hours, waiting for 10 AM. when we got to the counter the staff calmly said "ok here's your room, and that's 5000 yen! (50 USD!))" We asked why and were told check in early requires 10 USD per hour, without exception. We explained that we were never told this, and all the staff could do was just repeat "give me 5000 yen, this is hotel policy."No explanation,no more help.We finally asked for a manager, who was perhaps even more frustratingly unhelpful. She never batted an eye when we asked why we had never been told about fees on TWO separate phone calls, - no apologies, no exceptions, absolutely zero concern. The 50 USD was almost the price of the room itself, and not telling us about the fee ahead of time is deceptive and unfair. we would have booked somewhere else otherwise. If that's their policy, I understand, but not letting anyone know until you arrive is terrible and dishonest customer service. I would never recommend anyone to stay here.
